Cover Crops at Raynham

At Raynham Farm, an integral part of our farming system is the use of cover crops during the winter months, ahead of our spring-sown crops such as sugar beet, beans, and maize.

Our cover crop mix consists of five different plant species, each carefully selected for the unique benefits they bring to the soil. Cover crops play a crucial role in building organic matter, protecting valuable nutrients from being lost into waterways, and are incredibly efficient at capturing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

By improving soil structure, enhancing biodiversity, and supporting sustainable farming practices, cover crops are a key element in our commitment to environmental stewardship. Not only do they boost soil health for future crops, but they also help reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to the protection of local water quality.

At Raynham, we believe in farming that’s not only productive but also sustainable. What’s not to like about that?
